Description
The Turkish filbert, also known as Corylus colurna, is a deciduous tree native to Southeast Europe and Southwest Asia. It grows to a height of 8-17m, with a trunk diameter of up to 80cm. Leaves are glossy green and heart-shaped, with pinnate veins. The catkins, which produce the nuts, form in early spring before the leaves appear. The nut of the Turkish filbert has a medium size and a hard shell. It is brown to grey in color and has a buttery, mild flavor. In the wild, Turkish filbert is widespread in mountain forests and along watercourses, and is popular for its edible nuts.
