Pinyon Pine Pinus edulis

This Colorado native tree is very compact and slow growing.  It has dark green needles that are very fragrant.  The resin deposits and needles release an enjoyable fragrance during hot summer evenings.  Pinyons do best planted on berms and they do not like a lot of water.  Pinyon pines are the most drought-tolerant pine tree.  Do not plant this tree over 7,500 feet.  This tree matures at 25′ and 15′ wide.
