Western Hackberry

Western HackberryWestern Hackberry Celtis occidentalis

This is a great tree that you will usually find near the street.  The bark of the hackberry is corky and the foliage has thick, leathery, light green leaves that turn yellow to golden in the fall.  In late summer the Hackberry produces reddish purple berries that attract many wild birds.  Do not plant if your elevation is 7,500 feet.  This tree will reach 60′ tall and 40′ wide.
